naturalselectioNZ has a little chat with Me Raabenstein. check his mix set here

Think broken, think ecclectic, think edgy, think intelligently.... Think Me Raabenstein! A man with intent to enlighten his listeners with nothing but style in his music. He has carved his own niche in the world of lounge music by fusing techy, funky, deep and meaningful music. He is also a man with a strong work ethic (the man seems to carve out at least a track or two a week when he gets to work)in what he is most passionate about...music. If youre into alternative club music with a twist then check his mix and the man out at www.myspace.com/meraabenstein or his label at www.nonine.com. Where were you born?

actually i was born in karlsruhe/germany last century
sometimes i think i was born since then several times
and some cool cats tunes can do wonderous things

Were you born into a musical family?

hmmm, its one of these, we do learn the piano in the age of ten
and then go on the nerves to those who didn't - families, know what i
mean...?

When did you begin to learn music and what instrument was it on?

my father was a russian war prisoner, so he brought a mandolin he squeezed
whenever he could, that pretty much stopped my enthusiasm...

So when did you realize that music was something that you wanted to
pursue?

did listen to music all day long, i remember i overran a friend to buy the
same big
amp plus speakers and turntable so i could afford it, buying two sets made
it cheaper,
met him on a school revival and he's still angry i spent his money ah ah ah

Who were your influences as you were growing up?

aight, it did start with art school rock, supertramp, yes, genesis, gentle
giant
then came new wave tuxeedomoon, residents, japan, bauhaus,
hip hop then, epmd, eric b & rakim, paris, 2 live crew,
early 90's tunes then, speedy j, beaumont hannant, orbital, the orb,
then a quick turn into this century akufen, prefuse73, dilla, flying lotus
and big shoutz to me comrades subsequent, cone, jazzhead chronic and kreng

Did you play in any bands and what kind were they?

no, actually i gave some terrible extravaganzas as a singer in a punkband
they hit me so hard, i'm lying in hospital to recover from me blessings
since then (1981)

What was one of your more memorable gigs?

stop playing and start to paint the walls live in ... bladibla, beginning of
the eighties

What would be a perfect setting for you to perform in?

a female?

When did you begin to produce your own music?

1983 (for films)
1997 (for vinyl)

Since then you've released quite a lot of EP's, Single's and Albums,
how would you describe the music you make?

broken ecclectic electronic music (sometimes ah ah)

You also have quite a few projects and collaborations on the go, how do
you manage your time with what seems to be a league of very creative peeps?

law and order, thats all

Id have to say that you are one of the busiest musicians I've met, you
have a swift production turnover that brings nothing but quality to the
table. How do you keep this energy flow going, I mean don't you get
Musicians block? (lol don't know if theres such a thing but hei)

ah, now u talking u want me to send u me recipe? very easy. take a full sice
me raabenstein, slice it into very fine pieces
and serve with a mixture of garlic/ginger/correander in a light soysauce if
u don't mind me dear. if none of the ingredients
are to u'r command, well???... at least u have the light soysauce... do u?

So when can we expect the release of your next album?

well, 2017?

And how about the releases with your other collaborations?

this year will be the sqaramouche year my friend
and a nonine compilation
we plan to have a 12" ep to download by every member of nonine

And lastly, what is something ya like to do when youre not in the
studio mashin up the sounds?

sorry?

.keep it oh so natural.
